Fiestas


FIESTAS EN HONOR DE SANTA ÁGUEDA, PATRONA DE SORIHUELA (4/02 y 5/02):

Enclavada en el parque natural de las Sierras de Cazorla, Segura y Las Villas, en Sorihuela del Guadalimar es fiesta el 5 de Febrero, día que la localidad fuera conquistada a los moros en 1235 y festividad de Santa Águeda, la Patrona del pueblo.

La fiesta de Santa Águeda:

Santa Águeda es la Patrona de Sorihuela y celebra sus fiestas los días 4 y 5 de Febrero, aunque los actos y cultos empiezan unos días antes, concretamente el día 27 de Enero. En este día, por la tarde, da comienzo la solemne novena, que congregará hasta el día 4 de Febrero a todos los sorihueleños en torno a su Patrona. Cada día de la novena estará dedicado a un grupo distinto de la parroquia y del pueblo (niños, jóvenes, catequistas, ancianos, emigrantes, inmigrantes, etc.). La novena se desarrolla con toda la solemnidad y esplendor que Santa Águeda se merece porque sin duda es el mayor orgullo que tienen los sorihueleños. Son nueve días emotivos, llenos de sentimientos y fuertes experiencias y a medida que se va acercando el día 5 va creciendo el fervor y la ilusión.

El día 4 de Febrero amanece con el ruido atronador de los cohetes y con el volteo de campanas que anuncian los días que se avecinan. Al mediodía se desarrolla la ofrenda floral de la cofradía, autoridades, niños del colegio y devotos a Santa Águeda; en este acto los niños del pueblo con ilusión recitan a su Patrona las poseías que en la escuela le han compuesto con todo su cariño. Al finalizar tan singular recital se procede a pregonar las fiestas, cada año lo hará una persona distinta, ya sorihueleño residente o bien ausente. Por la tarde se celebra el último día de la novena y se impone a los nuevos miembros de la cofradía la medalla; este día la novena está dedicada a la cofradía de Santa Águeda y a todas las hermandades y cofradías del pueblo, que portando sus estandartes e insignias rendirán pleitesía a la Patrona de Sorihuela. Seguidamente la fiesta se traslada a la plaza de los caños, donde se quemará una vistosa colección de fuegos artificiales, haciendo coincidir tan gran espectáculo con la quema de una gran hoguera conmemorativa del martirio de Santa Águeda; a todos los asistentes a este acto, la cofradía los obsequia con un vaso de cuerva y con una patatas asadas. Sigue a esto la verbena que durará hasta las altas horas de la madrugada.

Ya a las 12 de la noche empieza el día de Santa Águeda, el día grande, y en la iglesia se le cantará la serenata a la Patrona:

Santa y bendita Patrona / Perla del Guadalimar / En el día de tu fiesta / Te vengo a felicitar. Con toda alegría y gozo / Y con toda mi ilusión / Te deseo felicidades / Y te canto esta canción ...

Acompañará a los fieles devotos la tuna, acordeones y guitarras, pasando después por los domicilios de todas las Águedas de la localidad que obsequian al cortejo con dulces, vino, mistela, etc.

Llega el día 5, el día más grande para un sorihueleño; amanece con el volteo de campañas y con el ruido de los cohetes que hoy más que nunca serán los protagonistas junto con Santa Águeda. Al mediodía se celebra la Sagrada Eucaristía celebrada por un eminentísimo sacerdote y concelebrada por varios sacerdotes. Terminada la Misa la fiesta se traslada a los bares y plazas del pueblo donde se reúnen las familias y los amigos para hacer la liga y echarle sus cohetes a Santa Águeda. Por la tarde el momento más esperado, cuando a las 5: 30 de la tarde se abre la puerta principal del templo y sale Santa Águeda a su pueblo, a visitar sus calles, a bendecirlas, a visitar a los enfermos que no la pueden visitar. Es un acontecimiento único, el ver la antiquísima talla de Santa Águeda pasear al son de las marchas procesionales, entre tantos gritos de vivas y entre tantos y tantos sentimientos por las calles viejas y estrechas del casco antiguo. Al anochecer vuelve al templo y entre el estruendo desastroso de las tracas entra triunfante en su casa mirando a su gente que emocionada se agolpa ante ella.

Así es la fiesta de Santa Águeda en Sorihuela, la abogada de las enfermedades de los pechos de la mujer. Es imposible expresar con palabras lo que es esta Santa para Sorihuela, si quieres comprobarlo y sentirlo, ven a la fiesta.

 

ROMERÍA DE SANTA QUITERIA COPATRONA DE SORIHUELA (ÚLTIMO FIN DE SEMANA DE MAYO):

El último fin de semana del mes de Mayo, se celebra la romería de Santa Quiteria, Copatrona de Sorihuela y Patrona de los campos de la cañada en la ermita que lleva su nombre y que se sitúa a tres kilómetros de la localidad, en el paraje conocido por "Cerrico Pelón"; después de los actos litúrgicos, los asistentes pasan una jornada festiva en los chozos que se levantan a orillas del río Guadalimar. El Domingo por la tarde la imagen de la Santa es procesionada hasta el puente sobre el río Guadalimar.

La fiesta de Santa Quiteria:

La fiesta de Santa Quiteria en Sorihuela, puede decirse, es una serie de acontecimientos que tienen lugar sobre todo durante la segunda quincena del mes de Mayo.

Todo comienza el segundo o tercer Domingo de Mayo, en el que la imagen de Santa Quiteria, que se encuentra todo el año en su ermita, es trasladada al pueblo. Para el solemne acontecimiento, se prepara una carroza, en la que irán las andas que portan la imagen. En ella hará el camino que separa la ermita del pueblo (unos tres km.), y acompañada por sus devotos que al son de cantos, vivas y risas hacen del trayecto una verdadera gozada. Cuando llega al pueblo, es recibida con todos los honores por los sorihueleños y tras una solemne procesión de recibimiento por las principales calles de la villa es llevada a la parroquia de Santa Águeda donde ocupará un hermoso altar de culto.

El día 22 de Mayo, solemnidad del martirio de Santa Quiteria, el pueblo de Sorihuela y en especial su antigua hermandad, honran a la Santa celebrando la Sagrada Eucaristía.

Días más tarde, el fin de semana posterior se desarrolla la romería. Los actos romeros empiezan el Jueves anterior con un solemne triduo en la parroquia, que también se celebrará el Viernes y el Sábado, con la particularidad de que el Sábado se celebra ya en la ermita.

El Viernes de Romería, estalla la ilusión en los habitantes de este pequeño pueblo de "Las Villas", empiezan las verbenas en el cerro, se corona a la romera mayor y a sus dos damas de honor y empieza la diversión y jolgorio en los chozos.

El Sábado amanece con el sonido alegre del volteo de campanas y con el estruendoso de los cohetes que anuncian en el pueblo que todo está preparado para despedir a la Abogada de la rabia que vuelve en esa mañana a su casa de la "Cañá". Se concentran las carrozas en la Plaza de los caños, se reparten premios y haciendo un desfile por calles del pueblo se desplazan al templo parroquial de Santa Águeda para recoger a Santa Quiteria, que sale gloriosa a hombros de sus romeros. El camino que tan sólo dos semanas hacía que anduvo, en ese Sábado lo desanda, volviendo por esos campos de olivares a su "Cerrico Pelón" engalanado de fiesta para celebrarla y honrarla. Va acompañada de sus romeros que la aclaman y vitorean, cantando al son de sevillanas; unos a pie, otros a caballo, otros en carroza, pero todos con una misma fe. Al llegar al "cerrico" es paseada por todo el recinto de la romería, entre las casetas, los chozos, etc... y posteriormente introducida en su ermita. Por la tarde se desarrolla la ofrenda floral de la cofradía, autoridades, romeras y romeros en general. Seguidamente se reza el Santo Rosario y se celebra la Santa Misa continuando con el ejercicio del triduo. Después la fiesta está en la calle con el concurso de sevillanas y con la verbena que durará toda la noche.

El Domingo es el día principal de la romería. Todo el mundo se afana por comprar su estadal y colgarlo en su cuello para ir alrededor del medio día a la solemne celebración de la Santa Misa, en el Domingo de Santa Quiteria. Será una Misa rociera en la ermita, a modo andaluz. Después la fiesta se traslada a las casetas hasta las ocho de la tarde más o menos, hora en que la Reina y Patrona de la "Cañá", saldrá nuevamente de su ermita para ir ahora a visitar en procesión los campos de su pueblo, llegando hasta el puente de piedra, sobre las aguas rojas del río Guadalimar. Una vez allí será aclamada y puesta para que mire las aguas de su río y le dé su bendición, regresando seguidamente a su ermita, pero eso sí, no deberá de pasar de la higuera que hay en la orilla del puente, porque si pasa ya está en término municipal de Villanueva del Arzobispo; una vez regresada a la ermita y en la puerta será puesta mirando a su gente que llorando se romperá las manos aplaudiendo y gritará los últimos vivas al son de los acordes del himno nacional y mientras suena la vieja campana de la espadaña. Después la verbena hasta las altas horas de la madrugada pondrá punto y final a la romería de este año.

 

FERIAS Y FIESTAS DE AGOSTO(20/08 al 24/08):

La feria de Sorihuela se celebra del 20 al 24 de agosto. Están dedicadas a venerar a Santa Águeda, la Patrona, pero con una mirada especial a los emigrantes sorihueleños que un día tuvieron que dejar su pueblo. El 20 es el primer día; para principiar los días festivos, todos los años, la asociación de amas de casa "Quiteria" prepara algún agasajo para todos los que vengan a disfrutar de la feria. Por la tarde el pregón de fiestas y los fuegos artificiales pondrán el punto de partida a los días grandes. Característico es el encierro de vaquillas por las calles del pueblo hacia la media noche del primer día. Los días se irán sucediendo con encierros de vaquillas por las calles, animadas verbenas en la caseta municipal, corridas y novilladas, juegos populares, concursos, actuaciones de todo tipo, etc... El recinto ferial, con sus casetas y atracciones también será punto de encuentro para sorihueleños y visitantes. Las peñas también pondrán un punto alegre y festivo en las calles del pueblo en estos días; con camisetas distintivas se juntarán en las cocheras o locales y tendrán como único propósito pasárselo bien y hacerlo pasar bien a todo aquel que venga al pueblo en fiestas. Pero la fiesta también tiene un carácter religioso dirigido siempre a su Patrona Santa Águeda. El 21 se realizará la ofrenda floral y el 24 por la mañana, como culmen de la fiesta, se celebrará la solemne Función Religiosa siguiendo a esta la magna procesión de la imagen de Santa Águeda, que tras salir de su templo ante la mirada de sus devotos emocionados, recorre con sublime elegancia las calles del casco antiguo del pueblo, volviendo a su parroquia nuevamente. La feria de Sorihuela es la típica feria de pueblo, una feria con solera y marcada sin duda por la alegría de sus gentes.

FESTIVITIES TO HONOUR THE PATRON SAINT ÁGUEDA (04/02-05/02)
 
Located in the Natural Park of Sierra de Cazorla, Segura and Las Villas, in Sorihuela del Guadalimar is party on 5th of February. Day that the town was conquered to the Muslims in 1235 and feast of St. Águeda, the village’s patron saint.
The St. Águeda’s feast:
St Águeda is the Sorihuela’s patron saint and she celebrates her feast on 4th and 5th of February, though the acts and cults begin a few days before, specifically on 27th of January. On this day, in the evening, the solemn novena begin, it will bring together all the citizens around the patron saint until 4th of February. Every day of novena will be dedicated to a different group of the parish and the village (children, youth, catechists, elderly, migrants, immigrants, etc). The novena is developed with the solemnity and splendour that Santa Águeda deserves. They are nine emotive days, full of feelings and strong experiences that increase the fervor and the illusion until the day comes.
On 4th of February the day starts with the thunderous sound of the fireworks and with the sound of the bells that announce the days to come. At midday take place the wreath of the Brotherhood, Authorities, school children and devotees of Santa Águeda; in this event, the village’s children recite poetries to their Saint Patron that they have written at school with all their love. At the end of this remarkable recital is performed the opening ceremony, every year have to do it one different person, resident of absence.  In the afternoon it celebrated the last day of novena and it is imposed a medal for the new members of the Brotherhood; this day the novena is dedicated to the Santa Águeda’s Brotherhood and to all the village’s Brotherhoods that bringing their banners will yield obeisance to the Saint Patron. After that, the party moves to Los Caños’ Square, where a huge collection of fireworks will be used, this show will have emplacement at the same time that the spectacular bonfire. All the attendants will be presented by the Brotherhood with a wine cup and a baked potato. After that there is a huge party which won’t end until the early hours of the morning.
At midnight Santa Águeda’s Day starts, the main day, at the church a serenade will be singed to the Saint Patron:
“Santa y bendita Patrona / Perla del Guadalimar/ En el día de tu fiesta / Te vengo a felicitar. / Con toda alegría y gozo / Y con toda mi ilusión / Te deseo felicidades / Y te canto esta canción…”
After that, “la tuna”, accordions and guitars, go to every house where there is a woman called Agueda, and she invited them to drink wine, eat some deserts, etc.
The 5th of February is the most important day for the citizens, the day starts with the bell ringing and the fireworks’ sound that will be the protagonist together with Santa
Águeda. At midday the Eucharist takes place, it is celebrated by a noted priest and concelebrated by several priests. At the end of the ceremony, the party moves to bars and village’s squares where families and friends gather to drink and light rockets to Santa Águeda. In the afternoon, at half past five the Saint Patron goes on procession to visit the village’s streets and citizens. It is a unique event, can see the icon walks with the music, listening and feeling the people devotion. At nightfall the Saint Patron comes back to the church looking at her people.
Just like this is the Santa Águeda’s feast in Sorihuela, the attorney of chest women’s illness. There is no word which can express the feeling of the citizens for this Saint Patron, if you want to taste and feel it, come to the party. 
 
SAINT QUITERIA'S PILGRIMAGE (Last weekend of May)
 
The last weekend of May is celebrated the Saint Quiteria’s Pilgrimage, Co patron of Sorihuela and Patron of the fields located where her chapel is built, 3 km from the village, in the spot know as “Cerrico Pelón”. After the liturgical acts, the attendants start a festive day in the huts which are built on the banks of river Guadalimar. On Sunday afternoon the icon of the saint is carried to the river Guadalimar’s bridge.
The St Quiteria’s feast
The St Quiteria’s feast is a series of events that take place on the second half of May.
Everything happens the second or third Sunday of May, when the icon of St Quiteria goes from her hermitage to the village. For this event, a float is prepared, where the platform of the icon travels. In the float the Saint is carried to the village (3 km.), and accompanied by her devotees who made the distance really funny with their songs, laughter and enthusiasm. When she comes to the village, she is welcomed with full honours and after a solemn Procession is carried to the St Águeda’s Church where she will take up an altar.
On 22nd May, the inhabitants and the Brotherhood celebrate the Holy Eucharist.
A few days later, the next weekend, the Pilgrimage is developed. The pilgrim acts start the Thursday before with a solemn Triduum in the parish, which will be celebrated also on Friday and Saturday, but on Saturday is celebrated in the hermitage.
The Pilgrimage Friday, the citizens’ illusion explodes and the festivals start on the hill, the greatest pilgrim and her maids; the fun and revelry start in the huts.
On Saturday, the day begins with the thunderous sound of the fireworks and with the sound of the bells which announce that the village is prepared to say Goodbye to the Saint who come back to her home. Floats are concentrated at Los Caños’ Square, awards are delivered and inhabitants go to the Church to pick up St Quiteria who comes back to her “Cerrico Pelón” which is emblazoned for the celebration. She is accompanied by her pilgrims who scream of happiness, sing songs, on foot or by horse or float, but all of them sharing the same faith. Upon arrival at the “cerrico” she is carried along the outside area, and after she goes to the hermitage. In the afternoon people gives wreath, after that they pray the Holy Rosary and the Holy Mass is being celebrated. After, the party is on the road with the Sevillanas’ contest and the huge party which won’t end until the early hours of the morning.
Sunday is the main Pilgrimage’s day. Everyone strives to buy their rod and hang it on their necks and go to the hermitage for the Holy Mass at midday, the St Quiteria’s Sunday. The mass will be a Rocio mass, Andalusian style. After, the party goes to the funfair until eight o’clock more or lees, coinciding with the departure form the hermitage of the Queen and Patron Saint, now she goes to visit the village’s fields, righting un to the bridge over the Guadalimar’s red water. Once there, she will be acclaimed and she will give her blessing to the river, coming back straightaway, but she mustn’t go through the fig on the bank of the river, because it is Villanueva del Arzobispo territory. Once in the hermitage, at the door she will be looking to her people who are crying, clapping and screaming of happiness while the national anthem is still running and the old bell is ringing. After, a huge party, which won’t end until the early hours of the morning, will close the Pilgrimage.
  
THE FAIR AND FESTIVITIES IN AUGUST (20/08-24/08)
 
 Fair will take place in Sorihuela from 20th to 24th August. It is in St Águeda honor, but with a special look to the emigrants who one day left the village. The 20th is the first day, every year to begin the festivity the Housewives’ Association “Quiteria” prepare some delight for the citizens and visitants. In the evening, the opening speech and the fireworks are the starting point of these days.
It is typical the running of the bulls in the village’s street more or less at midnight of the first day.  Everyday will be running of the bulls, parties at the Municipal House, bullfights, popular games, contests, performances of all types, etc…
The fairgrounds, with its booths and attraction, will be a meeting point for the citizens and visitors. The “peñas” will bright parties up, with different t-shirts, they will be celebrating the festivities in garages and locals.
But the fair also have a religious character direct to St Águeda. On 21st August a wreath will take place, and the morning of August 24th, St Águeda goes in procession.
